On the 20th May, the Social Employer, together with EASPD and EPSU, will host a side event at the 2019 Annual Convention for Inclusive Growth (ACIG) in Brussels. The event title is: “How can investment in social services workforce deliver inclusive growth? Innovative approaches in recruitment, retention and training.”
The demand for social care and support services is expected to increase in the coming years due to demographic changes, more women in the labour force, a shift towards deinstitutionalisation & person-centred care, etc. However, studies predict that this high demand may not be satisfied, mainly due to a shortage of qualified social care and support staff .
The objective of the event is to present and discuss the trends and main challenges related to recruitment and retention of social services workers, their key characteristics and skills needed today and in the future, to deliver more inclusive support systems. The panel discussion will bring together different stakeholders, including employers, workers and service user representatives.
Other objectives will be:
- To present the state of play of social services workforce in the context of person-centred approach, integrated care and technology, and new models of employment.
- To discuss how social services and their staff contribute to delivering the European Pillar of social Rights
- To share innovative practices in training, recruitment and retention.
- To formulate recommendations and strategies on how to make social services more attractive as employers.
