The Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion Directorate-General (DG EMPL) has published its strategic plan 2020-2024.
The purpose of the strategic plans is to help Commission departments to plan and manage their activities in line with the Commission's policy objectives.
The strategic plan of the DG EMPL describes how it will contribute to the six political priorities of the Commission from now to 2024. It also defines clear objectives and indicators to monitor and manage the process. DG EMPL will play a key role in attaining four EC objectives: A Europe fit for the digital age, an economy that works for people, promoting our European way of life and a new push for European democracy, with clear specific objectives. In addition, it will contribute indirectly to the other two general objectives a European Green Deal and a stronger Europe in the world. The core element of DG EMPL’s strategy for 2020-2024 is the further implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights.
Some of the specific objectives include:
- A digitally skilled workforce
- An Economy that works for the people
- Stronger social dialogue and a review of sectoral social dialogue
- Decent and safe working conditions
- Better functioning labour markets
- Greater social fairness and more effective social protection
- Equal opportunities for women and men
- Supporting Member States’s efforts in improving the availability and affordability of quality care services
DG EMPL will continue monitoring and measuring the progress made and will implement new initiatives which will also have an impact on the social services sector and its actors. In order to achieve greater social fairness, DG EMPL will develop a European Child Guarantee, a strengthened Disability Strategy, contribute to the adoption of a Green Paper on Ageing and support the Member States in implementing the EPSR. The key policy outputs also include the adoption of a new EU Occupational Safety and Health Strategic Framework for the period post-2020 and explore priority issues and possible solutions on working conditions and closing the gap between women and men in the labour market.
