EC Roadmap on the Disability rights strategy for 2021-30

The EU Commission has opened a roadmap for feedback on the Disability rights strategy 2021-30 for further development and fine tuning of the initiative.

On 15th October the Commission has opened a period of consultation on the Disability rights strategy 2021-30, inviting citizens and stakeholder to provide views on the Commission's understanding of the problem and possible solutions and to make available any relevant information that they may have.

The strategy aims to ensure that people with disabilities can experience full social and economic inclusion on an equal basis with others and live free from discrimination. It will reflect the same values as mentioned in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities ratified by the EU in 2010.

Persons with disabilities still face barriers to their inclusion and participation in the society and economy on equal basis with others. With equal access to the labour market as one of the main challenges, persons with disabilities face a significant risk of poverty or social exclusion. There is a high employment gap of 24.2% between people with and without disabilities. Moreover, the access to inclusive and quality education as well as to healthcare, remains limited for many persons with disabilities.

The consultation period is open until 12th November 2020 to citizens and stakeholders to provide feedback, make suggestions, and contribute to the EU decision-making process.
