The Federation of European Social Employers has put together a position paper, outlining the opportunities and challenges of digitalisation in the social services sector from an employer’s point of view.
The position paper is the Federation’s first approach to digitalisation and will serve as a basis for their ongoing work on this topic, also in their cooperation with the European Federation of Public Service Unions (EPSU). In a Thematic Meeting between the Social Employers and EPSU on the 24th October, also dedicated to the topic, both organisations have agreed to develop a joint work-plan on Digitalisation.
The paper first provides a general definition of the term digitalisation and outlines the three transformations that affect the social services sector in particular: Digital documentation systems, intelligent robotics and connected help and monitoring systems. It then proceeds to list the main opportunities and challenges as seen from an employer’s perspective. The last paragraph of the paper outlines the Social Employers intention to further work on this topic – in the context of a sectoral social dialogue committee with EPSU.
