New project promoting gender equality in care: EQUAL-CARE

The EQUAL-CARE project targets the underlying causes of the gender care gap and promotes equal opportunities, fair working conditions, and better work-life balance for formal and informal carers.
The two-year, EU-funded project brings together ten organisations from eight countries, including three European organisations (EASPD, EUROCARERES, SOCIAL EMPLOYERS) and seven national-level organisations (CESIE, JDC, MARGARITA, TUKENA FOUNDATION, ASOCIACION FRESS, CHANCE B, IAT).
In the formal care sector, EQUAL-CARE will create tools, training, and awareness initiatives to inform and empower workers, managers and employers. The goal is to promote gender equality, challenge stereotypes, help women move into leadership roles, and encourage more men to join the sector.
For informal care, EQUAL-CARE will analyse gender roles to develop fair caregiving strategies. This includes raising awareness, recognising the value of informal care work, and encouraging men to take on caregiving responsibilities.
Additionally, EQUAL-CARE will provide policy recommendations to help policymakers, employers, and stakeholders improve gender equality in the care sector.
During the initial project phase, partners will conduct surveys and interviews with formal and informal caregivers to better understand their needs. This will help identify barriers, effective strategies, and areas for improvement in advancing gender equality in care.
